To learn some more about Abbeys work in and around the church!
Abbey Reed
Abbey is a native of Wyoming and graduated from the University of Wyoming. She moved to Mexico in 2006, working for four years in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, where she was part of an initiative to bring the first Spanish Braille Bible into the Republic of Mexico. She spent the next 12 years in Puebla, Mexico, as an International Sports Chaplain, working with professional and elite sports teams and attending multiple world events, including the Pan-American Games, Central American and Caribbean Games, and three Olympics. She has had the privilege of working with people from around the globe who have become lifelong friends. Her time in Mexico created a passionate heart to serve her community and a desire to offer compassion to others. Abbey moved back to the USA in 2022 and is happy to call New Mexico her new home. Upon returning to the USA, Abbey worked with ABQ FaithWorks Collaborative, where she worked in various capacities as the Director of Housing and Homelessness, the Interim Executive Director, and the Program Director. Working for ABQ FaithWorks allowed Abbey to learn about systemic issues that cause people to experience homelessness and built a greater empathy for Newcomers in our city. Her time with ABQ FaithWorks grew in a conviction that everyone deserves dignity, respect, and care. Abbey is happy to be part of Central's community and hopes to be a liaison between the church and the community and the community back to the church. She hopes to build bridges to bring healing to our community through intentional collaboration and care for those around us. Abbey enjoys nature, being active with her dog, reading a good book with one of her two cats on her lap, loom beading, and spending time with friends and family.
